Seasons Change (and so do we): Embracing the Change Within and Around You

Another summer has concluded, and Fall is upon us. Watching the leaves change, the colors performing a beautiful dance in the wind. The coziness of the cooler weather. Fall illustrates the beauty of change, the opportunity to let go. It invites us to adjust and settle into new routines, while preparing for rest and rejuvenation. College semesters begin, grade school children return to class, and work gets focused. The holidays are in the foreseeable future, and fall activities are upon us. This can be a time to embrace change and identify the beauty around us, even while the discomfort of change proves present as we alter our lives to fit the season, some things falling away.

How do you transition into autumn?

What changes are happening within and around you recently?

Where can you embrace the change?

Where might you be pushing against that change?

What might you be letting go of this season?

Sometimes the transitions and letting go that occur in the fall season prove difficult to manage on one’s own. It can be helpful to process adjustment to change and establish ways of better managing symptoms such as stress, anxiety and relationship issues. Where I practice in Central New York , specifically Syracuse, we know how cloudy (literally and metaphorically) it can get around here. Vitamin D levels are low and so are moods come winter. Having support from a therapist or other support within your system might be something to consider. While we cannot control everything, we can find ways of finding balance, acceptance and improved wellbeing, if we stay open.
