Settling into Self

Has anyone else noticed how fast time seems to be moving these last few months? I know it isn’t just me. Many of my friends, clients and colleagues have commented on how quickly things seem to be moving. I’m sure it’s not the case for everyone, but if you resonate with the “speeding up” that’s in the air, you are not alone.

Recently I spent a few days in the wild, totally unplugged. It reminded me how much time it can take to settle into myself without distraction, especially if I haven’t been consistently practicing. Over the years I have found myself striving for balance within myself and within my life. I wasn’t taught some of the skills needed to feel my feelings and honor where my body is at, so this has taken great time and effort. I’ve seen such improvements as I’ve taken action (or taken no action, depending). This is something I help my clients with as well. Finding a balance between human responsibilities, spiritual growth, and simply having some fun.

We need that time with ourselves in order to grow, heal, understand ourselves better. Not only that, but you may find you actually enjoy spending time with yourself at times! Putting the phone down, turning the TV or computer off, getting back to that person a little later and just being with YOU. I am reminded to bring this practice into my life daily, whether it be meditation, mindful walks, intentional yoga practice or journaling. Even if it’s just a few minutes per day. Start somewhere. It matters. You matter.
